March Community Climb

We are hosting our first Community Climb of 2025 at The Rock Garden Climbing Centre in Vernon, BC. This marks the beginning of our programming in the Okanagan!

We are excited to be hosting meetups at the gym where our president Shamus works as the Head Routesetter. Shamus will ensure that there are routes up for all ability levels and our team of volunteers will make sure you are able to get on the wall in a safe and supportive environment.

*We are a new organization with limited resources and may not be able to accommodate all ability levels at this time. If you or someone you know is interested in climbing but is unsure if we will have the resources to accommodate you, we encourage you to reach out to us with specific details about your disability so that we can focus our resources into getting you on the wall. Even if we are unable to do so by March 30th, we still encourage you to join us so that you can meet our community and we can assess your specific situation and raise the necessary funds to get you climbing at our April Community Climb (Date TBD).

Climb Together Fundraiser

The Adaptive Climbers of British Columbia are pleased to invite you to our Climb Together fundraising event; featuring climbing, games, and learning centered around the wonderful world of adaptive climbing. This will be ACBC’s premiere event, serve to bring awareness to the organization and act as its first major fundraiser. The Richmond Centre Arc’teryx Store is sponsoring this event and will provide prizes that can be won via raffle draw and by participating in various adaptive climbing-related games. Climb Together will provide an opportunity for persons with and without disabilities to learn everything there is to know about adaptive rock climbing from professional paraclimbers. This will include information about the history, prominent figures, techniques, and equipment of adaptive climbing. Participants will enjoy climbing on routes and boulder problems that are set with different disabilities in mind so that all abilities are accommodated. The Richmond Oval is a very accessible building and accommodations will be made to ensure that this event and its activities are accessible to all. Able-bodied participants will “Climb Like A Paraclimber” (CLAP) which involves climbing with various constraints such as being blindfolded or without one or more limbs. Some adaptive climbing equipment will be available for participants including a prosthetic climbing foot for lower extremity amputees and a Bluetooth headset for visually impaired climbing. ACBC, Arc’teryx, and the Richmond Oval are excited about this event and see it as the starting point of a blossoming adaptive climbing community in British Columbia.
